Most couples have songs that they have termed as “our” song. Whether it be the first song they danced to, kissed to, or a song that just makes them think of each other, many couples have a song that they think sums up their love in a 3-minute melody. When dancing the night away at their wedding, the bride and groom often request popular love songs to show their guests how in love they truly are. With oldies from Frank Sinatra to new music by hit artists, love songs are a must at every wedding.
When I think of love songs, my mind immediately goes to the classics from Nat King Cole, Stevie Wonder, Frankie Valli, and Etta James. Their unforgettable songs about love and affection will forever remembered as the original love songs. The music brings us back to the time when we fell in love for the first time, and how nothing else mattered in those special moments. They remind of how lucky we are to have found that special someone and how it is the most important thing in the world.
Nat King Cole’s “L-O-V-E” brings crowds of people together singing along to the famous tune and belting out those four letters that everyone knows. Stevie Wonders “Isn’t She Lovely” and Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” are songs that are dedicated to bride. She’s the center of attention and everyone should adore and crowd around her. That special moment when everyone is singing to her saying how lovely she is and how no one can take their eyes off her, is a moment that not only she won’t forget, but also a special moment for the guests who can see how lucky she is to have found love.
Then after all the fun and excitement, it’s time for the bride and groom to have a special moment to themselves and slow dance to a song such as Etta James’s incredible ballad of “At Last”. Her long notes and raspy voice is like none other. It reminds the couple, that at last, they found each other.
With the old classics having such a demanding presence on the dance floor, they are exactly some of the songs needed at a wedding to keep the party going while still celebrating love. Many people know the songs and some can sing along to them, which makes everything more fun. In this case “the oldies are the goodies”.
However, as times go by, music changes. Soon the oldies will be too old and new love songs will emerge. We already see this happening with music from artists today. Music from Elton John, Whitney Houston, Bruno Mars and Michael Buble are love songs today that can be predicted to be the staple love songs in the future. Elton John’s, “Your Song” and “ Can You Feel the Love Tonight” are love songs that bring tears to your eyes. Elton John’s deep and hypnotizing voice singing the meaningful words of love is enough to make you feel like you and your loved one are the only people in the world. Whitney Houston’s out of this world voice sings the beautiful and stunning ballad of “ I Will Always Love You”. This is already becoming a must have song at weddings. The lyrics declare an eternity of love between the couple.
Although there are songs and artists who will absolutely become the next classic singers and love songwriters, there are artists who are taking a different spin on love songs. Bruno Mars, a young, hip and entertaining artist is making his way to “superstardom” with his love songs that are reaching the top of the charts. “Just The Way You Are” and “Marry You” are love songs that are joyous, catchy, and are becoming more popular with more weddings. With Bruno Mars’ pop music style infused with a hint of the 80’s, his tunes are becoming extremely popular.
Finally, the last artist we see becoming the next classic love song singer has been called “the next Frank Sinatra.” With his covers of Sinatra’s music and coupled with his own love songs such as “Everything”, Michael Buble’s smooth and charming voice will be iconic. Sounding much like Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble has built his career from his appealing and wholesome songs that sound very close to the legend himself. With big shoes to fill, we expect great things from Michael Buble.
When celebrating a day of love, it’s crucial to have the right music to match. Love songs come in all different genres. They can be ballads, dance songs and party favorites, but what they all have in common is love. All the songs talk about loving someone, finding that special someone or adoring someone. In each era comes new song writers and singers. There are the classics, and then new popular love songs that could reach that level one day. The celebration of love is a time of happiness and feeling blissful. Make sure you have the right music to match to show everyone that your love is the best kind of love.
